2025 Kanamaluka / Tamar Forum

The Tamar Estuary and Esk Rivers (TEER) Program invites you to the 2025 Kanamaluka / Tamar Forum. Join us for a full-day event focused on collaborating for a resilient Kanamaluka / Tamar.

This free forum brings together thought leaders from across Tasmania, including representatives from councils, industry, business, government, academia, natural resource management, and community groups to explore the management of, emerging issues in, and future opportunities for the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary and Esk rivers waterways.

Program

Hear from local leaders and experts as they share how they are working across sectors to protect our waterways, ensuring the Kanamaluka/ Tamar remains a place where nature and people thrive.

Session one - Our connection to waterway
This session highlights how stakeholders in the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary and Esk rivers system are working together to manage and invest in activities that protect, restore, and enhance our waterways. Ursula Taylor (CEO – Derwent Estuary Program) will deliver a keynote address on regional partnership, sharing the Program’s perspective on collaborating to protect and sustain waterways as an integral part of Tasmania’s natural, cultural and economic heritage.

Session two - Investments for the future
This session highlights strategic planning and practical on-ground works, showcasing master planning for the estuary, catchment-scale restoration, and ecological trials. Speakers will illustrate how these actions are enhancing the long-term health and resilience of the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary.

Session three - Panel discussion
This session features a panel of thought leaders from council, industry, and the community, each actively working to protect and enhance the health of the Kanamaluka / Tamar estuary and Esk rivers catchment amid change and growth. The discussion will explore how cross-sector collaboration is helping to navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and build resilient communities and healthy waterways, ensuring the Kanamaluka / Tamar remains a place where industry, community, and the environment can thrive.

Session four - Science for management
The program concludes with science-led insights to guide the management of estuarine and catchment systems. Presentations will explore ecological changes, species trends, water use, and sustainable infrastructure, all contributing to evidence-based decision-making. Morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea will be provided. 

Bookings are essential as places are limited. Upon registration you will be asked to detail your dietary requirements.

Permeable Pavements

Permeable Pavements for a Resilient Urban Future: Stormwater, Tree Health & Greening

This half-day program brings together leading experts in engineering, urban design, horticulture, and policy to explore the role of permeable pavements in creating cooler, greener, and more resilient cities. Sessions cover the fundamentals of stormwater management, the link between urban heat and tree health, and innovations in permeable kerbs and pavement systems.

Speakers will provide insights into the economic feasibility, policy challenges, and real-world applications of permeable infrastructure across Australia. The program also highlights Porous Lane’s solution and concludes with an open Q&A panel, offering participants the chance to engage directly with experts. Networking opportunities over coffee and lunch ensure valuable connections throughout the morning.

Any profits from the event will be donated to Greenpeace Australia.
