National Water Week Ambassadors play an important role in improving water literacy and raising awareness of careers working with water. As an National Water Week Ambassador, you'll have the opportunity to organise fun interactive activities and share your experience and knowledge with school students.

Schools registered as part of National Water Week have access to leading water professionals to complement their water studies and engage with themes.

As a National Water Week Ambassador, you’ll help promote the water sector as a rewarding career path and showcase the wide range of career opportunities in the industry. You’ll have the opportunity to showcase projects, research and innovation – and their impact on the environment, communities and our shared water future. As well as engaging a new generation in the water cycle, your professional profile is boosted as you hone your communication and public speaking skills. 

National Water Week Ambassador Program is open to Australian Water Association (AWA) members only. We encourage all members who want to promote the water sector as a rewarding career path or share their knowledge on different topics to register.  

As an ambassador, you will be able to equip students with knowledge about: 

  • Water and climate change 
  • Water in the world  
  • Careers in water  

Of course, you can! During the registration process, for both schools and Ambassadors, there is an opportunity to select from three broad topics.  

  1. Water and climate change
  2. Water in the world  
  3. Careers in water  

However, we also have an "I don't mind" option. If a school has selected this option, we encourage you to liaise with the school to discuss which topic best suits their students and your area of expertise.

No, you can visit a school whenever is suitable for you and the school.  

 

Schools need Ambassadors to visit throughout the year. Please liaise with the school to find a suitable time for you both.  

You’ll present to students in a classroom, school assembly or online format.

Your application is reviewed by an AWA member of staff. Once approved, you’ll receive an automated email from nationalwaterweek@awa.asn.au with links to access your Ambassador Listing and a list of local schools (if required), plus the next steps.

Yes, AWA can match you to a school if required. If you have a school(s) you are already in touch with, that is also fine!
